my blog logos

here you have a drawing logo and a very graphic logo.

somewhere in the middle, or maybe in combination, is where i feel you need to go.

both the typography of the graphic elements and the drawing need to be refined.

that simply means spending more time on each.

but, good to get your ideas out in rough form before you spend lots of time refining.

from what i see in your influences, you like bold color, slab faces, a bit of cuteness, and drawing.

use these formal elements in your visual language.

see what you can come up with in terms of icons.

sketch a lot first.

think about what each icon represents.

it can mean more than one english word.

an icon can stand for a feeling, something funny, or an idea.

try for those things first.

the rest can come later.

sending you part of a portfolio done by jaeyoun, one of my senior students from last year.

notice how she developed an entire iconic language for a set of memory cards.

she also figured how to "play" the game, what the rules are, and how to get from one place to another.

very graphic, great color, she had a fun time making it, and thought about it a lot.

give it a try.

next week i'll do a little demo about what i mean by visual language.

we all have our own.

want to see you develop yours now.

good?
